Clogged Drains Cleared and Diagnosed
West Coast Heating Air Solar & Plumbing clears clogged drains in San Diego homes and finds out why the line stopped up in the first place. Kitchen sinks, bathroom basins, tubs, showers, toilets, laundry standpipes, and floor drains all get the same approach: open the line fully, confirm the water runs free, and tell you what caused the blockage so it does not come back next month.
Call us if any of these sound familiar:
- Water sits in the sink or tub for minutes after you turn the tap off.
- The toilet bowl rises close to the rim before it slowly drains away.
- You hear gurgling or bubbling from a drain when a nearby fixture runs.
- The washing machine drain overflows onto the laundry room floor.
- A sour or sewage smell comes up from a sink or floor drain.
- Plunging or a store-bought snake helps for a few days, then the clog returns.
- Two or more fixtures back up at the same time.
- Water appears in the shower when you flush a toilet or run the dishwasher.

Clogged Drain Questions
Can you come out the same day for a clogged drain?
Usually, yes. Toilets that will not flush and drains that are backing up get priority because they can cause water damage quickly.
Should I use a chemical drain opener first?
We advise against it. Chemical openers rarely clear the whole blockage, they can damage older pipes, and they make the work riskier for the plumber who opens the line afterward.
How do I know if it is a main line clog?
If several fixtures slow down at once, or water comes up in a tub or shower when you flush, the blockage is likely in the main line rather than a single branch drain.
What causes most kitchen sink clogs?
Cooking grease, food scraps, and coffee grounds. Grease cools inside the pipe and traps everything that follows it.
How We Handle a Stopped-Up Line
Every visit starts with questions. Which fixture stopped first, whether the problem is new or recurring, and what else in the house is acting up tells us whether we are dealing with a local clog in one branch line or a blockage further down in the main. That difference decides which tool we use and what the job will cost, so we sort it out before we pull anything off the truck.
You get a written price before work begins. We protect the floor and cabinets, then open the line with equipment sized to the pipe: a small hand auger for a lavatory trap, a drum machine for a kitchen run, and heavy cable or water jetting when the main is involved. Once the line is open we run water through every affected fixture to prove it drains at full speed.
If the clog keeps coming back, or the cable brings up roots, scale, or pieces of pipe, we recommend a camera inspection rather than guessing. You see what we see on the screen and decide on the next step with real information.
Many San Diego County houses built before the 1980s still have cast iron or clay drain lines that roughen and narrow with age, which makes them catch grease and debris faster. Hard local water adds mineral scale inside pipes over time, and mature landscaping in older neighborhoods sends roots toward the moisture in sewer joints.
Clog work we handle includes:
- Kitchen sink and garbage disposal drain clogs
- Bathroom sink, tub, and shower drain clogs
- Toilet clogs and toilet drain line blockages
- Laundry and utility drain backups
- Floor drain and outdoor drain clogs
- Main sewer line blockages affecting the whole house
Why Clearing It Properly Matters
When the clog is removed completely instead of poked through, water drains at full speed and the line stays open far longer. You also get an honest read on the condition of the pipe, so you know whether you are looking at a one-time cleaning or a section of line that needs repair down the road.
Waiting usually costs more. A slow drain that keeps getting worse can back up into cabinets and flooring, and harsh chemical cleaners poured in repeatedly can damage older pipes and traps. Sewage backups also carry bacteria that turn a simple plumbing call into a cleanup job.
If a drain in your home is slowing down or stopped completely, call (619) 349-4189 or schedule online and we will get it running again.
